Lower Ninth Riverfront  Redevelopment

Master Plan

During hurricane Katrina (2005), the flood walls along the Lower Ninth Ward were breached, and eighty percent of New Orleans parish was flooded for several months.

There are currently plans for redevelopment of this district; however, some design elements like vacant area reuse and connecting green space to neighborhood have not been considered.

This project focuses on three unused areas along the Lower Ninth riverfront and connecting green space to the neighborhoods. These three leftover areas would be designed as Wetland Park, Community Park, and Walkable riverfront. This design would also provide streets with pedestrian paths connecting the riverfront, community parks, historic buildings, and Bayou Bienvenue together.

By technically reevaluating and redeveloping three specific unused areas and connecting green space to the neighborhoods, this project would improve the environment of the Lower Ninth. This development would stress nature and beauty in the neighborhoods and introduce recreation programs and activities to the Lower Ninth.
